Logitech G29 F1 Review-is it still a good wheel in 2023?

Introduction to the G-29 f1 Racing Wheel

Most users seem to agree that the Logitech G-29 f1 racing wheel is still a great entry level wheel for beginners to sim racing and other driving simulation games. The wheel simulates the feel of driving or racing a real car.

It is also compatible with: PlayStations 4 and 5, as well as PC driving and racing games.

Features of The Logitech G-29 Racing Wheel

– The wheel is leather covered with hand-stitching

– This is a combination of wheel and pedals. The brake pedal is pressure-sensitive, and non-linear

– The wheel has 900 degrees of rotation, for hand-over-hand turning around wide curves

-This wheel has G-Hub gaming software, for controlling wheel sensitivity, force feed-back levels, and

selecting buttons for the sim’s basic functions

-Dual-motor force feedback, which accurately simulates how the car responds to road and track conditions

-Stainless steel paddle shifters on the sides of the steering wheel.

-LED indicator lights advising when to shift

-Built-in clamps which allow secure mounting to table or desk.

-Mounting points for screws to allow secure attachment to a racing rig

-Helical transmission gears which reduce noise and vibration

-Floor pedals have rubber feet to prevent skids on non-carpeted floors, and retractable grips for carpets

-Pedals are self-calibrated

-Solid Steel ball bearings in the wheel shaft

Some Cons of The Logitech G-29 Racing Wheel

-In some cases, the force feedback and the LED lights that indicate it may not work out-of-the-box.

(In all fairness, although there has been reports of issues regarding force feedback malfunction &

LED lights, these issues are NOT common.

-The metal pedals don’t feel good if you’re a bare footed or sock-wearing driver.

(Consider wearing slippers with non-slip soles)

-Some users say the brake pedal requires unrealistic pressure, as opposed to real cars or higher priced competitors like Fanatec or Thrustmaster

-Force feedback not as powerful as Fanatec or Thrustmaster wheels

-In spite of the Helical transmission gears, the Logitech g-29 can be a bit noisy, BUT not overly disruptive

-The shifter is not integrated. It must be bought separately.

-Since the Logitech g-29 is a complete unit of wheels and pedals, it is NOT easy to upgrade or replace individual components, such as swapping a wheel for a different model, or upgrading the pedals

Conclusion: Is the Logitech G-29 Racing Wheel Still Good in 2023?

The Logitech G-29 first made its appearance in July of 2015, as a replacement for the Logitech G-27. In spite of its age, many serious sim racers still consider it to be a great, affordable, entry-level wheel for new sim racers.
